Table Mountain is unique not only in its position, shape and stature, but in that it is part of a National Park surrounded entirely by the municipal boundaries of a city. Experience a feast of fynbos and fresh mountain air in an unusual combination with fine food, wine, history and the most spectacular scenery. The Table Mountain Trail provides a unique opportunity to spend the night on top of the back table of the Mountain, with spectacular views over the False Bay, the southern suburbs of the city and the world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

This two day hiking adventure is an experience that offers you the opportunity to hike one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders and to be the only ones on top of the mountain that night. This guided hike is fully inclusive and all you have to take is your clothes, hiking gear and camera. We start the tour off with a short walk around the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens before heading up Skeleton Gorge to the top of the back table. This part of the walk is through one of the few remaining Afro-montane forests in the Cape. At the top we enjoy the pristine fynbos, which contains some plants unique to Table Mountain, and visit the Waterworks Railway Museum located next to one of the 5 reservoirs on top of the mountain.
We then spend the night at the old Overseers Cottage, converted into wonderful accommodation by SANparks. We have a braai (barbecue) and a sundowner with spectacular views over the city and False Bay. The next morning we enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading northwards to join the Smuts Track up to McClears beacon. the highest point of the mountain at 1085mts. Then it is along the top of the front face with amazing views of the city bowl and Table Bay, with Robben Island in the distance. When we reach the upper cable station we will have our packed lunches, and have a tour around the top, before heading down on the Cable Car back to the base of the mountain.
Day 1
After collection from your accommodation in Cape Town you meet your guide/s in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the eastern side of the mountain at 10h00. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the Gardens until you reach the contour path, where the mountain hike begins. From here your mountain guide will select the route to be taken to the top, according to the group’s ability and the weather. The walk to Overseer's Cottage is approximately 3-4 hours with the stops that we take.
Arrive at the Overseer’s Cottages for an early lunch, before taking an afternoon walk around the Back Table to the railway museum and the old reservoirs. On to Kasteelspoort for the vital photograph of ‘the diving board’ that overlooks Camps Bay and the Atlantic Coastline, far below. Return to the cottage, where, after a hot shower, enjoy pre-dinner drinks while overlooking False Bay and the distant mountain ranges, or Orangekloof and Hout Bay on the other side. Then it is time for a South African braai (barbecue) or potjiekos (cast-iron pot-on-the-fire) stew, which is served around the fire - either under the stars, or inside on cooler evenings.
Day 2
After a leisurely breakfast you will set off along the historic Smuts Track towards Skeleton Gorge and Nursery Ravine and Echo Valley, on your way to Maclears Beacon and the highest point of the mountain. The pace is easy as you enjoy the interesting rock formations, the spectacular views and the wide variety of fynbos species, including proteas, ericas, restios and many others. A lunch spot is chosen to take best advantage of prevailing weather conditions and then it is on to the top of Platteklip Gorge and the Western Table en route to the cable station and your ride down (weather permitting). The alternative route is the steep, but well defined path down Platteklip Gorge.
